I have never felt so inadequate…
…were my exact words during lunch today…three quarters of the way through the 2018 DataScienceGO conference here in San Diego. I am working a lot with data, but the #DSGO2018 training and presentations made this 25+ year IT veteran feel like a newbie. So many concepts, approaches, and tools to learn!
However, two things inspired me to consider today the first day of my data science career:
- I know I can do it. I have the aptitude for nerdy, exciting stuff like this, and…
- The data science community is ridiculously supportive!
And I know #2 from experience in that I chatted with many of the leaders and speakers, and not only did they spend quite a bit of time with me…it was clear they wanted to. Not only with me, but the myriad other conference attendees. As I noted, I’ve been in IT a long time, and if you’ve ever seen what happens when someone just starting in a technology asks an expert a rookie question…
Well, it isn’t pretty. 🙂
No so with data science. I have never seen such genuine warmth and camaraderie in IT.
However, I am very tuckered…and want to grab something to eat before climbing on plane back to Denver…so I am going to wrap up my first post on my new blog to celebrate the first day of my new career with a picture that helps show #2 above. Here is “Data Guy (Me)” with the two top dogs of the conference, Kirill Emeremenko and Pablos Holman:
Great job to you, your speakers, and you team gentlemen!
